Enclosed or Open Trailer-What
Will You Need?
Utility trailers are growing in popularity today due for
many reasons. Their versatility is really great since they can
be used for business or pleasure. Although typical utility
trailers have been used by small and large businesses for
years, many individuals buy them today to support their hobbies
or personal interests. With downsizing of family vehicles on
the rise, there is a genuine need to transport larger items.
This is where the utility trailer excels.
You will find many types of trailers on the market today but
when it comes to the purpose of just general hauling, the
question really comes down to deciding between an open trailer
or an enclosed trailer. Most people seem to prefer an enclosed
utility trailer since they offer more security for their
cargo. They also offer the additional bonus of being a good
storage place for your products, materials or tools when not in
use. Your cargo will be protected from any sort of weather and
prying eyes so they serve this purpose well. Many snowmobile
owners and ATV owners store their toys in their trailers all
year long. This is also an important benefit for apartment or
townhouse dwellers who do not have access to a locking
garage.
Enclosed cargo trailers will have either a double barn-style
door or a single ramp door in the rear. Usually an option is
available of a single entrance door on a side for larger
trailers. If you have vehicles like snowmobiles, motorcycles or
ATV's to haul, the ramp door is ideal. At one time the actual
weight of a cargo trailer was a major deciding factor. But
today, due to light weight aluminum construction, you will find
smaller enclosed trailers are well within the average towing
capacity of even small compact cars.
Of course open flat bed style trailers are lighter in weight
in most instances. With some shoppers, this might still be an
important characteristic to consider. Open trailers come in a
variety of forms from simple landscaping style trailers to car
haulers. In most cases open trailers will also be less
expensive to purchase. But I should warn you here that many
buyers who opt to save a few dollars in purchasing an open
trailer later are quite dissatisfied and wish they had gone
with an enclosed cargo trailer. So the shopper should really
consider what his or her desired uses of the trailer will be.
Another benefit of the open trailers is they obviously have a
lower profile when storing for long periods of time.
Regardless of what style trailer you decide on, I highly
recommend buying a used utility trailer. I've done this for
years and it always results in a good deal. Let the original
owner pay top dollar and you benefit from owners who no longer
need their trailers. We have always found a good variety of
used trailers for sale on the web.
